I'm sorry to hear this, hope it's not representative of the movie actually. I'm still planning on seeing this this weekend, because I want to see more X-Files, but this is the second poor review of the film I've read (2 out of 2, which doesn't bode well). But I want to believe.
I have not read or for that matter have seen anything in the trailers that makes me want to go and see this movie although I can say that about every movie that is coming out soon because The Dark Knight has made everything else look so bland in comparison, I will wait and rent it...
I'm in agreement: I will see it this weekend. Having said that, I also think that Chris Carter needs to realize that the world has moved on. I really don't if there were enough
fans out there to support a big-screen continuation. And, yes, six years after the conclusion of the series is a hell of a long time to wait. When you consider the changes
in television and movies since 2002, it makes the whole concept seem even more dated.
I think most fans of the series felt cheated by the Carter and the rest of the creative team. After that, it will be difficult to bring the audience back, let alone bring in new
fans.
I don't think it's so much that too much time has lapsed since the series went off the air as it is the fan base left this series with a bad taste in their mouth. Back in the 1970's Star Trek was resurrected after a significantly longer Hiatus than X-Files. It spawned six sequels. Star Wars went from 1983 to 1999 before it made it's way back to the silver screen and churned out 3 hugely successful (financially at least) films.
Just an opinion, but I think the creative talent behind the show so alienated the fan base you're going to need an act of God for them to forget it. This film does not appear to be that source of divine intervention.
I've been buying up all of the seasons this year and I'm stoked to see this movie. I've also read complete opposite reviews. So I will wait to make my own judgment. I'll be there this weekend !!
