X-Men: First Class casts its Mystique. Plus: More Green Lantern photos! A new Thor photo! A new Walking Dead photo! More photos! So wild and free, so far from thee, it's all you want, it's your Comics2Film 10.7.16!

Jennifer Lawrence is Mystique in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Heat Vision broke the news that actress Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as Mystique in director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class movie for 20th Century Fox.

Lawrence has had roles in a variety of TV shows including Monk, Cold Case and Medium (where she played a young version of Patricia Arquette's character). However, she's been enjoying critical praise for her starring turn in the film festival darling Winter's Bone.

Heat Vision also confirms last Friday's report that Kevin Bacon is set to play the movie's villain. There's still no word on what character Bacon is playing exactly. Some are speculating he's a version of Mr. Sinister (aka Nathaniel Essex) who would certainly have ties to the young Scott and Alex Summers, who are both apparently appearing in the movie. Of course, he may also be just another political/military figure in the vein of William Stryker or Senator Kelly.

The pair join James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Alice Eve, and Caleb Landry Jones in the cast. The movie is set to begin filming in London in the next couple of months.

If you got invited to the Walking Dead party at Comic-Con this year (like C2F did), your invitation came with an awesome new photo of the cast of the movie, laid out similar to some of Charlie Adlard's amazing covers for the collected edition of the book. (Notice the "Science Dog" T-Shirt Carl is wearing)...

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique?  Honestly, I don't know anything about her, but she looks like she could pull it off.

I can't wait for Thor, it's going to rock.  They have a good cast and Hemsworth really buffed up for the roll.  I am getting more and more excited as it progresses.

GL is shaping up to look pretty good as well.

I love the pic from THOR. I think the costumes and armor look excellent. I still hope they wear their helmets even if just briefly just to acknowledge their existence

The Green Lantern pics look good too. I'm loving Hammond's look.

Cage already signed for Ghost Rider 2, I guess all my prayers can't be answered

Jennifer Lawrence is a hottie, looking forward to seeing her in costume. I remain hopeful for X-Men

Thor and GL pictures are sweet!!!

Still have no opinion of X-Men first class.  Could care less at this point but who knows once we see a trailer.

I'm hoping Jennifer Lawrence wears as much as Rebecca did playing Mystique.

HudsonTaco 7/16/2010 6:46:34 AM

Still waiting for a trailers to pass judgement on all of these films, but Thor is looking good and for now I think GL is the movie I am anticipating the most for next year, hope the Trailers are good.

Waitaminnit... "Hector in a bunker with the corpse of alien Abin Sur"?!?

wessmith1966 7/16/2010 6:58:45 AM

The Thor pics look good. Thor's chain mail doesn't look rubbery when lit properly. Costumes take on a whole different look when lit properly.

I can't wait for Green Lantern, but I wasn't digging the costume on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

I'm anxious to get the story overview for the X-Men movie. Fox is casting so many different characters and it should be interesting to see how the story fits together.

professorchaos709 7/16/2010 7:05:10 AM

Yeah, I caught that too RaM1Lo, I think the film is definitely going with the Geoff Johns updated take on Hammond and what happened to him.

I know it's on a different article but I thought it was worth bringing up, to everyone who is sayign the costume doesn't look like the classic comic book one, take a closer look. he area under the arm and around the neck are darker almost to the point of being Black, like the official Hal Jordan costume. It's hard to see due to the ring effect but I think the look that they are going for is one where the "green" parts of the costume pulse more with light and energy from the ring and the "black" parts are more in shadow. If so, I think it's a cool way to translate it to film since the costume itself is supposed to be made of light. Overall I think it's going to be great. I'm over my initial reaction to Reynolds as Hal, especially sinc ethe interview where he said he knows he can't be overly quippy because Hal's not that guy, and who better to direct it than the guy who has made the best two Bond films in the last ten years?

Still not sure about Thor, something just seems a little off so far, but I know I'll be in the Imax 3D line with everyone else at midnight of the Thursday it comes out.

Darkknight2280 7/16/2010 7:05:57 AM

Yeah the Thor and GL pics look great. Let the haters hate :) Im lookingforward to seeing both films (although i dont know much about GL)

Cant wait for Walking Dead to start!!

Flint521466 7/16/2010 7:13:51 AM

Got home from a 12 hr shift last nite to find GL on the cover of my EW.  I was jacked to say the least.....

Anybody heard anything else about Mark Ruffalo taking over as Dr. Banner/Hulk in The Avengers?

monkeyfoot 7/16/2010 7:15:01 AM

Thor and GL look great to me. Asgardian costumes do look better with right lighting on a set.

I still have no complaints about the GL suit. Looks like they said it woud: generated by the power ring, it is otherwordly in appearance and looks more sci-fi than comic-booky.

Jennifer Lawerence? 'Nuther girl who secretly wants me, but just doesn't realize it yet.
