Chris Columbus directing SUPERMAN?

The rumor of the day from Superman Homepage is that the suits at Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures consider director Chris Columbus "the right fit" for the new Superman movie that's in development under the guidance of Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer.

Their anonymous source also claims that Goyer was keen to take the helm of the movie, but his lack of success as a director left the studio folks skittish.

None of this is corroborated by on-the-record sources, so digest that bit of rumor with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Behind the Scenes of THE GREEN LANTERN

A producer for ABC 26 News in New Orleans dropped us a note to let us know that their reporter Molly Rosenblatt has filed a video report from the set of Green Lantern. She witnessed filming at the private airport on Lake Pontchartrain which had several vintage fighter planes and was apparently dressed to look like a military base. The scene being filmed involves young Hal Jordan watching his father fly one of the planes.

The footage isn't terribly exciting but we see director Martin Campbell directing a crowd of people to cheer on the fighter planes.

You'll find some photos here and the video report is embedded below:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Cast-O-Rama

A flurry of X-Men: First Class casting rumors hit the web last night, bringing word of three new cast members and one previously unmentioned mutant.

First up, Deadline.com says the brewing drama over who will play The Beast is coming to a close. According to their report. Nicholas Hoult has landed the part. Fans may remember him as the chubby, dorky kid in About A Boy. According to Deadline, he's grown up quite a bit and looks a bit more manly in movies like Clash of the Titans where he played one of Sam Worthington's doomed entourage. The kid is also appearing in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Next up, Deadline confirms previous reports that Caleb Landry Jones will play Banshee in the film. Jones will be seen in the upcoming horror flick The Last Exorcism.

Most interestingly, EW.com comes up with actor Lucas Till having a role in the film. Till was seen as the love interest for Miley Cyrus in the Hannah Montana movie. According to their reports, he's in negotiations to play Alex Summers, better known to comic fans as Havok. It's hard to say whether the character will feature prominently as a superhero or if he'll simply be seen as the younger brother of Scott Summers, whose mutant powers have yet to manifest.

Speaking of Scott Summers, EW adds a wrinkle to yesterday's  rumor: Their sources claim that Aaron Johnson is not appearing in the movie at all, not as Cyclops or any other character.

Interesting that they're bringing in so many quirky characters from the pantheon of Marvel mutants. The First Class comics dealt with the original five X-Men, so where are Marvel Girl, Iceman and Angel?

What do you think, Maniacs? Is FIRST CLASS shaping up to be a cool movie? Post your comments below.

Watch THE PRO At Work

Way back in April 2008, Comics2Film at Mania exclusively revealed the existence of a test animation reel for a proposed TV show based on Garth Ennis and Amanda Conner's comic The Pro. The footage was developed for a proposed series on Spike TV which would detail the exploits of a superhero hookert looking o join the prestigious League of Honor.

Well, Spike passed on the show and the footage was buried...until last night. Jimmy Palmiotti has since uploaded the reel to YouTube where it can be viewed (but not embedded).

We must warn you that the toon, like the comic, is NOT FOR CHILDREN and furthermore it is NOT SAFE FOR WORK!

But if you want to take a gander at The Pro at work click through to YouTube.

Rob M. Worley is the writer and creator of the all-new, all-cat kids comic book series Scratch9 which is enjoying a new costume change that will put Wonder Woman  to shame!

I'm trying to remain optimistic about First Class. I still hate that they don't appear to be adhering to the chronology and make up of the original team roster. Probably because they want it to mesh with Singer's films.

The best part of that report is that Aaron Johnson won't be appearing in the movie at all. He sucked IMO in Kick Ass

WB is showing that they're not as stupid as some may claim by not allowing Goyer to direct Superman. Goyer is a  talented writer but his works as director sucked or at best were lackluster. I'm okay with Chris Columbus helming the next Superman

I want to see Green Lantern in action. I hope they show something good during SDCC, like some of the Corp members in uniform

Looking forward to Dark Days. Too bad George didn't return for the sequel in which case it probably would've gotten a theatrical release

monkeyfoot 7/9/2010 7:18:15 AM

I'm remaining optimistic for First Class. I like the director Vaughn and Singer as a producer. Iceman or Angel can't be in this movie since the movie franchise timeline would make them infants or zygotes at this time.

Very good Goyer won't be director of Superman. I love his story ideas and writing but as noted his directing leaves much to be desired.

The Pro: LMAO x 10!!!! That was hilarious! I'm not familiar with the comic but I would definitely watch this if it were a series. But it couldn't possibly air on Spike TV as is. Its raunchiness makes it a premium channel show like HBO. Two thumbs, two big toes and Mr. Happy up for this!

SONYMANswallows 7/9/2010 8:14:19 AM

Wow monkeyfoot loves oyer's writing, yeah I was wondering about the fans of Blade Trinity and chick flicks like The Dark Knight. All of his writing is someone else improving it, ideas are one thing but good writing is not David Goyer.

nemesis1_57 7/9/2010 8:17:08 AM

First class is getting younger but it should focus on the original five I hope they stick to the source material. I think they wont though cuz Iceman and Angel were already in previous films so look like there stay with what Singer started

jfdavis 7/9/2010 10:34:16 AM

I will state again. Johnson can appear in the film but not as Cyclops.  Jean will be cast. (Emma Roberts maybe?) I'd be shocked if the other two will be unless the didn't watch the own movies...

If Chris Columbus directs, will Tom Arnold or Robin Williams play Perry White?  Both have potential. Anyway, Columbus working from a Goyer script would definitely give Superman the right amount of edge.

Rheul_home 7/9/2010 10:40:42 AM

Yawn...

urphatgod 7/9/2010 11:47:46 AM

It's already been made known by the studio that this is not a reboot, but the early days of the X-Men. This very site is where I read only 3 or 4 months ago that Bryan Singer was still set to direct X-Men 4 after Mathew Vaughn does First Class. Thats why he is producing.

I am happy however to hear about alot of the Mutants Ive wanted to see appearing finally. Banshee and Havok are two of my all time favorites, but the Havok casting kinda scares me. If it's an actual part in the film and not just a cameo, can the kid act or do they just want lil girls to swoon?

I'm certain Columbus can do better than Goyer. Maybe we'll get a good SUperman movie this time around.

axia777 7/9/2010 12:42:09 PM

X-Men is going to suck azz. I do not care what they do to it. They say it is a reboot then they say it is not a reboot. They are crazy. Fox are a bunch of incompetent asshats. I will not support them anymore. I will not watch their X-Men movies anymore. I am boycotting them and that is a serious promise.

The X-Men was my favorite comic of all time, the nearest and dearest to my heart. Now they are sh*tting all over it like they don't give a crap about it. Because they DON"T. They just care about they CASH MONEY. They have raped the X-Men stories to death as far as I am concerned. the Wonlverine movie was the last fukking straw.

Fox can get fukked. ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

Superman sounds like it is in good hands. I and keen to hear more news.

Same with Green Lantern. That movie sounds like it is actually going to be a great one to watch. I have very high hopes.

Also, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days has me excited as I always saw an opening for a sequel there. I can always watch more 30 Days of Night which was the BEST vampire movie made in the past 5 years or more! I wish I could drop the cast of Twilight into the middle of 30 Days of Night. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That would be funny.

That "The Pro" short was awesome!  I bought the book when it came out back in '02 and loved it.  It's a shame that the short left out The Lime and Speedo (the Green Lantern and Flash parodies).  I looked it up on Wikipedia and saw this, which I think would be awesome:  "On October 12th 2009, Conner and Palmotti have proposed a live-action adaptation of the graphic novel. They have said that they would like to have either Sarah Silverman or Ellen Muth as the lead."

violator14 7/9/2010 4:51:03 PM

Havok and Banshee..... i love those characters, but Im pretty sure FOx is gonna FOX this up again. UUGGHHH Im pissed at just the mention of the word FOX now..... UUGGGHHHH!!!!
