XXX 3 in the Works

Columbia Pictures is in talks with producer Joe Roth for a new/third version of XXX, one that would bring back Vin Diesel as star and Rob Cohen as the director.

In the original, Vin Diesel starred as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission. For the sequel, XXX: STATE OF THE UNION, Ice Cube took the lead role and Lee Tamahori directed.

This third installment is tenatively titled XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE.  Columbia currently does not have a script though.

Diesel has agreed to return and so has Cohen, but their deals won’t be worked out until a studio pact is made with Joe Roth's Revolution Studios, who controls the rights to the property.

Cohen most recently directed THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, while Diesel starred in BABYLON A.D.

I believe Samuel L. Jackson's character in "XXX: State of the Union" mentioned that Xander Cage was killed while on an assignment!

NotAFan • Sep 15, 2008, 01:01am •
In a deleted scene they actually show Cage getting killed. Diesel also played the character who was passed out in the helicopter, which cronilogically took place after Cage was already dead. This lead some conspiracy theorists to say it was done on purpose to make it look like Cage was still alive and had faked his death or whatever just incase they wanted to do what they are doing right now. I personally don't think they put that much thought into it. Mr. "I don't do sequels" is so desperate that he is doing sequels to everything. HAHAHA HI-Lari-ous!

I was just thinking the same thing as you NotAFan. I was like didn't this guy say a few years back that he didn't like sequels and/or would never do a sequel?? So not only did he do a sequel for The Fast & The Furious, then there has been chatter about a sequel for The Chronicles of Riddick, now there's talk of him reprising his XXX role. Hi-Lari-ous indeed!!!

And Chronicles, in itself, was a sequel to Pitch Black (in a fashion; same characters, different locations).

I love Vin Diesel. I'm just glad to see him back on the screen. Even as unsatisfying as Babylon AD was, I still loved it because Vin was in it.

Here's a quote on why he didn't do some sequels: "I was being offered three franchises at the same time - Pitch Black, XXX, and The Fast and the Furious - and I had to choose. I couldn't do all three." - on why he didn't do the Fast and the Furious sequel

Have to wonder if Boobaylon AD had anything to do with this decision. He'll get the big bucks for doing number 3 and that keeps him in the mainstream. Everyone knows that if you are a so so movie star and come out with a bomb you need a big hit to off set it. I know F&F 2.5 will be a hit next year but triple X is his alone.

Thats not a cut on Vin, I like the guy and like his tastes in movies.

I definitely rather see a Riddick sequel way before a XXX sequel. State of the Union was horrible and that is saying something because the first one wasn't exactly the Godfather part 2. They should make a sequel to Boiler Room. I love that movie. The Ben Affleck scene in the office is great.

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the announcement that they're making Pacifier 2 now.
