Yates Could Return for DEATHLY HALLOWS

In the process of updating her film's project status, author Lois Lowry passed along word that director David Yates (Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince) may be returning for the final Harry Potter film, which won't begin production until next February. In her official blog, here's what she had to say:

Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years. Maybe the opening of this film could be held simultaneously with my celebration-of-life service after I succumb to old age? Or the producers will decide to get a different director. Stand by. But without holding your breath.

While this doesn't mean David Yates is going to be selected to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it does signify that he's willing to let other projects wait on the back burner so he's considered by Warner Bros. Expect a decision shortly from the studio.

I do know that Del Toro wanted to make this movie and was hoping they would come back to him and ask but I think he probably has come to the conclusion that he will be doing the Hobbit regardless of who's suing who and I think that is a good move although his version of the last Potter film would have been awsome and the dark mood of it would have been a marriage made in heaven...Either way I get Del Toro in Hobbit or Potter if one or the other does not work out and that is hopeful wishing lol

I know its a pipe-dream, but I would love to see someone like Terry Gilliam or TIm Burton do the last film. I think Burton would be perfect to do it. The book is pretty dark (for Harry Potter). I think Yates did a good job with OFTP, but it was my least favorite book, so I am curious to see how he pulls off HBP. Maybe that will sway me to get on board with him directing DH.

They should've asked Alfonso Cuaron to return.

Not Tim Burton.

I love his work (just saw Sweeny Todd this weekend), but though his TONE is appropriate, his VISUALS tend to be somewhat flashy. Even in Toddy there are some bright colours that abound, from the splashes of blood to Signor Pirelli's costume.

I have no doubt that he COULD do it, especially since it has some of his favorite actors in it (including Helena Bonham Carter), but I don't think Hogwart's should look like Willy Wonka's factory or Beetlejuice's....anything, really, in that movie...

I really hope DelToro sticks with the Hobbit films and bypasses HP if the offer comes up. Besides I think WB should give the honor to either of the previous directors of HP. I honestly liked them all even Newell who seems to be the forgotten one.

I think any of the directors would work, but I think it would be interesting to have Columbus come back for the final movie. Let him finish what he started. I believe he has stayed in the HP ring as a producer for the other movies after he left as director, so it's not like he'd be starting over from scratch.

"They should've asked Alfonso Cuaron to return. "

No, they shouldn't have.

Yes they should have. LOL
Prisoner of Azkaban is still the best of the movies

I might be worried that Burton would put too wierd of a spin on the style that it would be a distraction, but if he would swear to keep things in check, it might be worth a consideration. I'd be all for Gilliam, the movie might never happen - poor guy.
