Year in Review: Synch-Point in 2003

In 2002, Synch-Point mastered the fine art of releasing the first volume of a series. They pushed out the first volume of I'm Gonna Be An Angel as well as FLCL. In 2003, the turned their focus to both the second and third volumes, bringing out what was left of FLCL while pushing the Angel series into 2004.
While their output didn't exceed what they did in 2002, Synch-Point once again showed that they've definitely got their minds in the right place when it comes to producing a quality release. Both volumes of FLCL turned out not only to be solid releases in every way, but they completely outmatched their original Japanese counterparts by a wide margin. With commentary tracks, extras and a great booklets chock full of information, it was one of the few times I personally regretted buying the Japanese releases as they came out.
Synch-Point continues to fit the bill as a boutique publisher with only a few releases per year. 2004 looks to be about the same with a couple more releases than the two of the previous years, but probably not a lot more. Synch-Point is the kind of company I want to root for more, but simply don't have the materials with which to do so. The work that's done that the end consumer sees is exactly what I want to see from every release, so there's little to complain there. I'd love to see more come out from them, but at the same time I'm still of the belief that we need more small boutique style players than more massive conglomerates coming into the scene.
2003 Release History:
02/25/2003 - FLCL Vol. #2
07/22/2003 - FLCL Vol. #3 w/Box
