The sharp new Young Justice series may have finally cracked the code on DC’s Teen Titans. Earlier incarnations of the team basically ignored the other heroes in the DC Universe for fear of overshadowing the ostensible main characters. Let’s be frank: most people would rather follow Batman around than Robin any day of the week. But rather than avoiding that dilemma, Young Justice grabs it by the horns, and immediately distances itself from the competition in the process. Batsy, Superman, and the other “senior” heroes constantly look over the young team’s shoulders here… and it drives the Titans out of their adolescent minds.
That dynamic gets off to a good start this week, as Robin, Aqualad and Kid Flash defy the Justice League’s orders and investigate a suspicious lab fire. It soon leads them to the bowels of the Earth, where an alien conspiracy is up to no good. The sparkling dialogue and fast pacing keep the introductory episode firing on all cylinders, and with new members still to come, the writers should have plenty of good material in their tank. Is this the best superhero show since Justice League Unlimited? It’s too early to tell… but it certainly looks promising.
I was SO disappointed when it turned out to be the first half of the premiere from November. And that I don't get real new material until 1/21. At least those that missed the movie can see it now since they didn't replay it, which was very surprising.
I was pleasantly surprised by the pilot. The animation isn't "anime-ish", and is much more along the lines of what we've seen in the recent direct to DVD releases. The story was pretty good, and I'm definitely looking forward to more from this series.
Just like other folks here I was disappointed when I realized this was exactly what was aired last month. So since I had other things to watch on my DVR such as the new Star Wars: Clone Wars episode, etc I skipped it. Not that I didn't love the episode (last month). This show has promise, I am just waitin for a 'New' episode to watch. The 21st will be enjoyable.
Just a reepeat of the premiere from last month.
I would give it a A.
