An episode written by Peter David? Yup, this is gonna be good.
Black Beetle finally finishes his battle with Mongul from last episode, or should I say Green Beetle finishes Black Beetle's fight with Mongul from last episode. In seconds.
We finally learn the answer to the question I've been asking "how exactly is The Reach controlling Blue Beetle?" It would seem that inside Jaime's head, there are 3 personalities. There is the Reach Ambassador, there is the Scarab and underneath it all, there is Jaime himself, unable to communicate or control his body. Man, that has to be embarrassing when he has to use the bathroom. Anyway, he's flying around, saving people, gaining the trust of the Earth, defeating villains like Toyman, when The Team decides to get involved.
Meanwhile, M'gann and Lagoon Boy have a heart-to-heart about their relationship. Poor La'gaan get's his fishy face dumped. Of course, he asks if it's about Conner and of course, she says it isn't…and OF COURSE as soon as she gets back to base, she wants to see Conner. And of course, he's out with Wendy Harris! Sorry, I'm just flashing back to the myriad of times I've been dumped by a girl for Conner Kent. That guy gets all the girls. Stupid flying stupid-face.
Back on the Beetle front, Batgirl and Impulse attempt to take down Beets and quickly discover they are outmatched. As Blue approaches the unconscious heroes for the kill, it's revealed that they were only a distraction so that Zatanna and Rocket can encase him in a force bubble made up of Cooperative technology and magic. (I had to look up The Cooperative, since I'd never heard of it before. As it turns out:
"The Cooperative is an alien organization. Rocket's belt was made by them. They also had a delegation on Earth. The Cooperative is a concept from Milestone comics. It is a union of thousands of planets, including Terminus, Icon's native planet, and Taldega, his later home."
There, I saved you a quick Google-ing. You're welcome.
At any rate, this tech, mixed with Zatanna's magic are too much for the Scarab to handle and Blue is captured. They then take him to the Bialyan facility that houses Queen Bee's forces and they have to take out Devastation, Mammoth and Shimmer before getting down to brass tacks: putting Jaime Reyes back in control of his Blue Scarab. Take some ancient ruins, hieroglyphic pillars, (a la The Fifth Element) and the power of Isis, and you get not only a cleansed Blue Beetle, but Green Beetle as well! Jaime and B'arzz O'oomm are back on the side of the angels!
What follows on their way home is a whole lot of exposition on how they came up with this plan. Yadda Yadda Yadda.
During the end sequence, Queen Bee reveals that all of this was necessary and part of the plan. That "Now the Light's plans for the Reach, the League and Team my proceed on schedule." That does NOT bode well.
I do have a question though. Why is the gathering of our heroes called The Team? I mean, I realize that they don't have an actual designation in the show and so when the people IN the team refer to it, they just refer to it as The Team, but why would Queen Bee call it…The Team as well? Doesn't that seem sort of strange? Oh well. I'm just picking nits.
Some of the cool:
"Don't blame Blue…he's just as much a captive of The Reach as we were! We have to set him free….you know, before he conquers the Earth and enslaves all mankind."
Impulse running up a zip line to attack Blue Beetle. Impulse using Wonder Girl's lasso to throw Green Beetle in front of his own blast? Come ON! Why isn't there a FLASH movie yet???
Some of the not-so cool:
Really? Toyman is more afraid to deal with Blue Beetle then Superman? That seems to go a bit far, but whatever.
Gawd, I still hate Black Beetle's voice.
I'm going to say the same thing I say every time. This show is amazing and I want to physically abuse the person who cancelled it. It is THE BEST cartoon on television.
