What They Say

The Review!
Audio
The sound is really excellent it's in mono but I couldn't even tell it sounds like stereo.I didn't have to turn it up the sound or anything. The music and voice acting are blended perfectly and neither go over the other.

Video
Mid 1993 and early 1994 TV episodes very good video quality Pierrot took good care of their masters.I didn't notice any problems although in one episode there were a few nicks otherwise an extremely solid looking video.Bright and vibrant no grain,no color bleeding nothing to complain about basically perfect.

Menu
Standard menus for Japanese anime dvds the show just starts you have to hit the menu button to see them and all it is the dvd cover as a background. Then episode number and name. The reason for the low grade well I guess dvds are suppose to have fancy menu things I don't have a problem with the way its done.

Extras
None!Well you do get a booklet with the boxset but thats just a standard for R2 boxsets. Also in the discs themselves you get plastic pretty nice see through postcards.Other than that no extras period.

Packaging
The boxset is very nice the front of it is a picture of Kurama, then on the two sides is a picture of Yusuke and Kuwabara it's the same picture of box 1 cover. On the other side a picture of Hiei holding a sword. On top of the box it say's Yu Yu Hakusho and then it's kanji YYH.Then below DVD BOX II and below that writing TV series Anoku Bujitsukai and something else. The covers to the dvds are nice but I think it could've had better covers but they are still pretty good covers.

Content
This box covers the rest of the Anoku Bujitsukai and it's conclusion and then starts the new arc of YYH and the best arc of YYH.The Devil World arc with eps 67.The below part has some slight spoliers and is marked for your caution.

*SLIGHT SPOLIERES*

It picks up with the conclusion to the Yusuke and Jin fight and the last member of the current team they started fighting in episode 37.After that Yusuke starts taking up some training with Genkai to prepare Yusuke for Toguro and the team finally gets a break after having to battle 2 teams in a row.The Anoku Bujitsukai or sometimes called Dark Tournment moves to a different arena Kuwabara,Kurama, and Hiei start to fight the new team and they are a pretty interesting team.Genkai shows up in a bit to give a helping hand. Finally after defeat them Genkai and Toguro fight outside of the tournment and Toguro shows 50% of his demon power and kills Genkai.Yusuke shows up and tries to fight Toguro but Toguro kicks his ass basically it seems all is lost for Yusuke and there is no chance for him to defeat Toguro when they fight for real in the tournment. After that there is some more story and then the finale match of the Anoku Bujitsukai Toguro Team vs Urameshi Team. This is a pretty good sets of fights and lots of twist
*SLIGHT SPOLIERS END*

Now the best arc of Yu Yu Hakusho and my personal favorite arc next to the Kyoto arc of RK starts with episode 67.The new arc which could basically be called the Devil World arc. This is where Yu Yu Hakusho turns from just being a pretty good anime to one of the best period. The story and everything that happens in this arc is very good and solid stuff.Due to all the stuff happening in this arc I'm not going to give a description it's kinda hard to summarize all of what starts to happen.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a very solid anime and even better with the Devil World arc.The Anoku Bujitsukai might not be for everyone it is a fighting tournment but not your usual fighting tournment. It has alot of cool things going on,great character development, and the fights are pretty interesting for the most part. The animation stays at a pretty good quality although episode 58 you could tell the drop in animation quality for the characters. If you like Yu Yu Hakusho already and or you like fighting you're bound to like the tournment for the most part.

The Devil World arc is what really makes YYH an amazing anime beyond the usual stuff.I can't stress enough how damn good this arc is.Yes it still has fighting but besides the Kyoto arc of RK I have yet to see an arc of anime that is this good. The story is very good the character development is excellent I can't find fault with this arc at all.Yoshihiro Togashi shows that he can write an excellent story and not just be a fighting show.

So should you go out and this?Yes and no.Yes because it's great stuff. Then no it's pretty pricy and you might just want to wait until Funimation releases it in R1.If you are dying to know what happens you could pick up the manga volumes 9-14 as a cheap alternative and a quick fix.Since it's coming to the US pretty soon and it will be a lot cheaper plus it will have subtitles I would have to say go with that route.Unless you are a person that buys R2's and or likes YYH a lot to spend the money then get this box.

If you don't like the idea of how YYH turns into a fighting anime with a tournment you might want to skip the Anoku Bujitsukai it's still good stuff still and deserves a try, but some people just don't like fighting anime. It's not dragged out for the most part their fighting new foes every episode and it's got good character development to boot. However don't pass up the Devil World arc. This I can't recommend enough it's beyond good.

YYH is a classic anime TV series and one I'll watch over and over for many years to come.
