Shock-O-Rama: Summer Evenings at the Drive-In: Part 3 (Article) - 6/6/2013 1:26:37 PM

Nice article!.'Barbarella' dserves a wider audience, even if it is dated,by todays standards.Being a huge anime fan,I wouldn't be surprised if Haruka Takachiho drew a little inspiration from 'Barbarella' when he created 'The Dirty Pair'.'The Green Slime' I was lucky to see as a kid at the local drive-in.Not as good as 'Invaders From Mars',but still very creepy!.Thanks!.

Blade Runner Sequel Update (Article) - 6/2/2013 4:38:01 AM

I saw the film when it first released,it's one of my all-time favorites.Though it had a more-than-satisfying conclusion (Director's Cut),I feel it had alot more to say, more things waiting around the corner, just out of sight. This is exciting news.Hopefully something comes of it.

You've got taste!.James Horner has come a long way.Try(unless you already have)listening to the score he did for "Battle Beyond The Stars" and you'll see how much he was influenced by Goldsmith's score for "Star Trek:TMP.Have to get "Time After Time"!.That & "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" are some best latter-day work from Miklos Rosza.Great Stuff.

Planet of the Apes Limited Edition Soundtrack Review (Article) - 3/21/2012 9:00:34 AM

That's great news!.Thanks for the heads-up.By the way,GNP Crescendo released a CD of music from "Outland" & (though I could be wrong) all the music composed for "Capricorn One".It's getting kinda difficult to find. You could try EBAY,neat little surprises pop up once in a while.Managed to get ahold of the CD of "The Boys From Brazil",one of Goldsmith's best. Thanks again for the info!

Planet of the Apes Limited Edition Soundtrack Review (Article) - 3/17/2012 7:03:40 PM

Film Score Monthly generally makes limited edition pressings of 3,000 copies of various scores. There was a companion magazine that was available for several years, but is now defunct. Some of my favorites have been Fantastic Voyage,Patton, Tora! Tora Tora! & the expanded version of Logan's Run.They had a website but I haven't looked at it in years. The other label I referred to was Varese Sarabande.

Robert, great article!.I loved Elfman's score but was mixed.on the film itself.By the way a ortion of the Escape score is on included on the Planet score cd as a bonus(VSD-5848).Also Conquest was released with Battle on one cd(FSM Vol.4 No.1).Hope this helps.

Whedon Talks Avenger Sequel (Article) - 3/10/2012 9:54:58 PM

REALLY looking forward to this movie!.My only concern is Whedon's penchant for killing characters off. It's neither arbitrary or uncerimonious,it's just poor writing.

Mania Review: John Carter (Article) - 3/10/2012 9:31:57 PM

My best friend and I just got back from seeing the IMAX 3-D version in SF (appropriately!),and we were both blown away.Loved the changes to the Disney logo. There are lots of little bits I don't want to spoil but sharp-eyed viewers may catch.Really hope this film does well overseas so we can see "Chessmen" & "Thuvia" going to see it again Monday!.

Genre Oscar Winners (Article) - 2/26/2012 4:35:56 AM

Another reason they added 10 nominees to the list for pictures is marketability. It's considered prestigous to have even a nomination attached to your film,so that people will be more inclined to see it.Same thing applies to SF & fantasy awards.

Mania Review: The Secret World of Arrietty (Article) - 2/22/2012 12:57:46 PM

decepticons2,thanks!.I'm glad you had a good time.Unfortunately, the demand for traditional animation (in the west, anyway) is waning in favor of 3-D CG,it's getting harder to plant butts in seats. But if films like "Summer Wars" or "Redline" got wider release they could make a difference.Speaking of,why didn't "Adventures Of TinTin" not get nominated for best animate feature this year?!?.Criminal!!
