Mania Review: The Secret World of Arrietty (Article) - 2/21/2012 2:31:15 PM

Has anyone gone to see this film besides my best friend and I?.Gang, you are missing out on something special.I mst admit I had doubts, and was reluctant to see it,but my friend bought the Roman Album for "Arietty"and there was a shot of a single frame (in pencil)involving the title character and a grasshopper."Now I'm convinced!" I said.My friend shook his head sadly, with a "you-only-now-figured-it-out?"look on his face.Personally,I would rank it with "Pompoko" "Whisper Of The Heart" or "The Cat Returns".A great time.

The Top 16 Most Important Video Games of All Time (Article) - 9/7/2011 12:31:23 PM

Two of my personal favorite non-shoot-the-enemy-but-run-away-from-him games are Major Havok & Marble Madness.Sinistar,Robotron 2084 & Berzerk kick ass as well!.

WonderCon Moves South (Article) - 9/3/2011 9:56:58 AM

Maybe someone can help me out,as I'm a little confused.Does this mean the Wondercon 2012 move is just till the renovations are done or is it a permanent move?.Any info would be great. Thanks!

10 Overlooked Animated Features (Article) - 8/10/2011 12:31:50 PM

Great list!.Some truly obscure entries here. Some others would include Rock & Rule (1983) Gandahar a.k.a. Light Years (1985) Memories (1995) Plague Dogs (1981)? Time Masters (1987)? Cats Don't Dance (1997) Renaissance (2005)? Steamboy (2006)?,Interestingly,Time Masters & Gandahar were produced by Rene Laloux and Roland Topor, both creators of Fantastic Planet, meaning their work is not as widely seen here as in France.Plague Dogs was the follow-up from Watership Down for director Martin Rosen. One final choice would be When The Wind Blows (1985),England's Graveyard Of Fireflies. These all I highly recommend!

Mania Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Article) - 8/8/2011 9:32:15 AM

Saw it opening day.Beautiful way to set up the series proper.Despite what Fox said about remaking the fourth (and in my opinion the most underrated of the bunch)film, this is NOT a remake.I don't want to discuss details from the original series to spoil it for those who haven't seen them, but I'm sure careful-eyed viewers will know what I'm talking about.I say again, this is NOT a remake.9 out of 10 rating!

10 Best Star Trek Moments (Article) - 8/1/2011 12:50:35 PM

My personal favorite moment:

KIRK:"My god,Bones...what have I done?"

BONES:"What you had to do..what you always do..turn death into a fighting chance to live"

Combine this with the fiery streak across the sky & James Horners' music makes me choke up every time.

And the Kelvin should be there instead of Vulcan.Great list though!

Mania Review: Cowboys and Aliens (Article) - 7/31/2011 10:26:31 AM

Sorry ,got my director's mixed up!.Last Iheard,Ridley Scott was supposed to direct this potential travesty. My apologies Mr. Scott shouldn't have doubted you!

Mania Review: Cowboys and Aliens (Article) - 7/31/2011 10:18:41 AM

Saw it on Friday, and loved it!.Craig & Ford are a great pair and as for Wilde, she played her part appropriatly.I give C&A a 7.5-8 out of 10.The trailer for Battleship is attached to C&A,and my god it looks horrible,I mean Battlefield Earth/Independence Day horrible.Ridley Scott has lost his mind.

Mania Review: Captain America (Article) - 7/23/2011 11:04:43 AM

Saw it yesterday, and I must say this movie ranks just below Superman (1978) as one of the best super-hero movies yet. Some details I liked(WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!):1)Loved the reference to the original Human Torch at the World's Fair 2)Cap's USO outfit matching the 40's serial version albiet in color.3)"The Star-Spangled Man With a Plan"song made me misty-eyed.4)Parallels:CA-Peggy:"Go get him".Steve puts Peggy's photo on his altimeter.ROCKETEER-Valentine:"Go get 'em kid.Cliff puts Jenny's Photo on his altimeter.END SPOILERS.There were many other details I loved. The sepia-toned color palette was gorgeous as was Alan Silvestris' score.Joe Johnston' calling his friends from the old days at Disney over to help in the production was a joy.Plan to see this again on Monday.Don't miss it!
