The roles of the two siblings in Jon Favreau's sci-fi family adventure ZATHURA have been filled. Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo will play the two young brothers that find themselves and their house whisked off into interstellar space when they open up and play a magical board game. Tim Robbins (an Oscar winner for MYSTIC RIVER) will play the boys' father.
Based on the children's book by JUMANJI author Chris Van Allsburg, ZATHURA had been originally planned as a direct sequel to the 1995 film. Instead, ZATHURA will now be a stand-alone project, albeit one that bears a twist in setting from JUMANJI's jungle themed adventure.
Filming is scheduled to begin later this summer for an eventual 2005 release. The shooting draft is by David Koepp (SECRET WINDOW), John Kamps and Eric Fogel.
