Michael Dougherty has teamed with Walt Disney Pictures and Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers on Calling All Robots, says the Hollywood Reporter. The project is described as an animated sci-fi adventure the screenwriter plans to direct using the same type of performance capture technology recently deployed to produce Beowulf. Dougherty will write the project with Breehn Burns and Simeon Wilkins, who will serve as artists and visual designers on the project. The trio conceived the idea together. ImageMovers' Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey will produce.

Plot Concept:
Details of the project are being kept under wraps, but it uses performance capture to "tell a story that's a throwback to old Godzilla movies," Dougherty said. "I grew up watching Godzilla movies. This film is very much rooted in those movies."

Well I guess if it's about robots then this motion capture thing should be just right for this project because that is how stiff the characters looked and felt in Beowulf...

I have yet to see Beowulf, but I thought the animation looked a little weird in the trailer. I prefer the animation in Final Fantasy: Advent Children.
But, if this new animated film is going to have that old Godzilla film "feel", I am all for it!

i loved Beowulf but more despite the mocap than because of it. This might make more sense as a concept that might fit the mocap format this could be like anime with a huge variety of strange looking robots.

Agreed JohnZilla. Anything claiming to be going for a Godzilla feel is okay in my book. Sounds like a Negadon style film for us.

I've been saying this for years, but they need to make a top quality CG Animated Godzilla film.
CG Animation is a perfect tool for the giant monster & sci-fi genre.

Disney will definitly want a PG movie so this project wont have much violence or devastation scenes like the old Godzilla movies. Also wont be serious -the robot voices will be celebrities telling crappy one liners.

It will be interesting to see how they do the motion capture for the robots (assuming there are some). As for a CG Godziilla-esque story, I'm in, as long as they have y CG Smog Monster-esque creature.
