SarcasticCaveman:  Didn't the show Carnivalle know it advance that they were going to be cancelled?  At the very least, Carnivalle gave more closure than Deadwood.  Even the Sopranos...for that matter.  Pore Rome had to give us the blue book ending...lumping years into moments.

I think we will see Vigo as Jor-El.

LOL!!!  Don't blame me for Superman being lame.

I imagine Snyder using Zod as a Ras Al Ghul type role to Clark in "Man Of Steel", Zod using the fact that he's the only other Kryptonian left and that he knows Clark better than any human could to try and bend him towards his own agendas. Maybe Zod will be the first Kryptonian to visit Metropolis and Superman shows up later as a result of Clark learning more about his heritage from Zod.

I'm still holding out for John Hamm as Jor El.

This will be a huge Turd of a movie!

@Innersanctum Daniel Knauf originally intended the story for Carnivale to be a trilogy, each part consisting of 2 seasons so there were no changes made to the episodes when they were made aware of the cancellation.  That is why there was a decent amount of closure at the end of season 2 as it wrapped up the minor story lines, but the major plot is still left untold.  I am hoping someday Mr. Knauf puts the rest of his tales into novel or comic book form.

I'm with Wiseguy - I'm disappointed but not ready to give up on this. Zod is an awesome character (note: I have never seen him in Smallville - don't watch it), both in Superman II and in the recent comics that reintroduced him to post-Infinite Crisis continuity. But Brainiac has been almost as much of a nemesis for Supes as Luthor over the years, and certainly with his post-Infinite Crisis incarnation, he is intimately tied to the fate of Krypton and this relates to his obsession with Superman. The new Brainiac is a true universal supervillian who destroys civilisations and can duke it out with Supes too. That would be awesome, but as I've written that I wonder maybe too big a scale for a first movie? Still, they have to bring Brainiac in at some point surely.

Have to agree with the previous comment too that bringing Zod in risks being accused of aping Superman II, just as Superman Returns aped Superman: The Movie. It's a big risk, and I trust Nolan and Snyder, but I just really wanted to see Brainiac! Ok now I'm whining.... ;)

Didn't Brainiac's new incarnation smell of DC wanting their own Galactus. Not that there's anything wrong with that

The good news is: Superman will have somebody to actually fight in this movie. The bad news is: It's Zod again.

I sure hope he's not the only villain. Warner Bros is just in this Zod/Donner rut they can't seem to escape. There's soooooo much more to utilize in the character's cast.

I, personally, still love the idea of a Superman triology where they have Lex/Metallo, and it appears that Lex is getting funding/help/intel from some shadowy someone that is not revealed. The first film ends with Doomsday arriving on earth.

Second film, Doomsday Vs. Superman. Again, it appears as if Doomsday is created or directed toward Superman by that shadowy someone behind the scenes. Film ends with death of Superman, but after credits it's revealed that his tomb is empty.

Third film, return of Superman: brought back to life by his robots or The Eradicator or whatever you want. Finally, it's revealed that the shadowy figure behind the events in previous films is Darkseid, who plans an invasion of Earth or to destroy it or whatever. Final battle is Eradicator Vs. Doomsday and Superman Vs. Darkseid or something like that.

That was my rough outline idea when I heard they were making a new film(s).

The Death of Superman storyline would suck as a movie.

I can see them using Zod, because going back to Superman's roots, he's the House of El's oldest villain. Remember, this is a reboot. Don't expect Lex until the second movie, much like the appearance of the Joker in the Dark Knight. Michael Shannon is a great actor, and quite menacing, if you've been watching Boardwalk Empire. I think this movie will be great because of who is writing the script, and producing the movie. I don't expect too much from Zach Snyder, but with Nolan holding his reigns, it should work just fine.
